Carterton 1 – 9 North Leigh

Convincing Performance See 18’s Cruise Into Next Round

Although ravaged by injuries and unavailability North always had too much quality for an ill disciplined Carterton side.

From the outset it was clear that the North lads had no intention of giving their hosts an opportunity to cause a cup upset, playing lovely football throughout. On around ten minutes they opened the scoring, a great in swinging corner by James Turner was met by Chardex Pavier, who ghosted in to plant a header past North old boy John Payne. Within a few minutes it was two in similar style, this time Shaun Hiles nipping in to head home. On the half hour Tom Weedon got in on the act driving home with a fine left footed strike. Just before the break Carterton were reduced to ten when Dominic Dyce, another ex North Leigh player, was dismissed.

The second half was pretty much one way traffic, James Turner help himself to a fine brace with two good strikes from around 15 yards. Tom Weedon ended up with four goals to his credit, a thunderous shot from the edge of the box by Kieran Strange rocketed into the back of the net to make it nine. Carterton got a consolation late on when a well taken free kick found its way past North’s keeper Sam Oliver. Another ugly moment, just before the final whistle, saw Carterton’s James Gough receive a straight red for a needless punch at North’s outstanding centre back Rob Keylock. North now progress into the next round of the cup, where they are bound to be given a sterner test.
