Godalming Town 0 - 1 North Leigh
The Millers made their first ever visit to Surrey based Southern League Central Division League leaders Godalming Town, and after a thoroughly professional performance in a game where they always had the upper hand, they scored a great goal to win the game and move onto the next round in two weeks time when they will host fellow South & West Division team, Sholing at Eynsham Park.
The Yellows started the game well and after only 3 mins had the home side in trouble as Kieran Sanders carried the ball down the right beat his man and centred with the Godalming defence scrambling back to clear. On 13 mins the Millers should have taken the lead as Sanders and Jacob Walcott combined well down the right to set up John Mills in front of goal with the home keeper Jake Somerville out of position. However he somehow contrived to drag the ball wide
of goal from 5 yds.
However on 21 mins he redeemed himself as he latched onto a great ball from Sanders down the right channel, drew the keeper and clipped it past him from 10 yds for a quality finish. Thereafter for the rest of the half the visitors played the stylish football with Wayne Turk and Michael Alexis pulling the strings in midfield with Walott and Michael Hopkins out wide.
Godalming were reduced to a few attacks that were quickly broken up by a very solid Millers defence. The only real chance for the home side came on 35 mins following a corner on the left. The ball was only half cleared by the Yellows to the edge of the box, whereupon Sam Warrell in goal had to fling himself to his left to palm away a fierce shot from a Godalming defender that was goalbound.

The home side raised their game in the second half but their attacks constantly broke down either with a poor final pass or interceptions by the Leigh defence and midfield. After an initial surge by the home side, Leigh had a few half chances. On 65 mins a through ball from Sanders was just nipped off the foot of Mills by the keeper and on 78 mins Jimmy Deabill on for Alexis found himself clear in the box. His left foot shot on the turn was gratefully collected by the keeper when he had time to control and do better. On 87 mins Turk put Deabill clear on the left and his powerful shot was turned away for a corner.
In the final few minutes the home side threw everything into attack, but never really troubled Leigh who earned the win with a really efficient and tidy performance.
