Despite putting in a good performance, along with dominating the game for long periods, North came away pointless. For the first thirty minutes most of the game was played out in Wallingford’s half, North playing some lovely football without reward. This being largely down to a combination of poor final passes, glaring misses in front of goal and some stout defending. Shaun Hiles being twice denied by the excellent Wallingford keeper, Tom Weedon, Kieran Strange and Will Potter all missing the target when well placed. At this stage it only looked a matter of time before North opened the scoring, but alas with a few minutes of the half remaining it was Wallingford who scored. A fairly harmless cross into the box was not dealt with effectively, the ball fell nicely for a Wallingford forward who screwed his effort into the net, this was somewhat against the run of play.
This seemed to knock the stuffing out of the North lads, though they still had the better of the early second half exchanges Wallingford started to pose more of a threat. After around 55 minutes Wallingford added a second, a long through ball caught out North defenders, the Wallingford striker sprinted clear to fire the ball past an exposed Joe Morse. North continued to press, but found no way past the outstanding Wallingford keeper, fine saves coming from an excellent James Turner strike and a powerful header from Will Potter. But it was again Wallingford who scored and again some sloppy defending contributing, a needless free kick being given away on the edge of the box which was despatched expertly. Although a disappointing result North can take great heart from this performance against one the leagues front runners.
