The strong wind made the game somewhat farcical, though Summertown adapted to the conditions better than the North Leigh lads.
With the their wind at their backs at kick off Summertown used the long ball to good effect, causing problems for North central pairing Ciaran Pragnell and Ollie Jones. On around ten minutes Summertown took the lead, North failed to clear their lines an alert Summertown Striker poked the ball home from close range. They soon added a second in similar circumstances, an in swinging corner wasn’t dealt with by North’s keeper Sam Oliver and the loose ball was fired home. As the game progressed North came more into the game, but their play was patchy and the Summertown keeper was rarely troubled. North did pull a goal back, Will Vandenberghe drilling a fine effort home from around twelve yards. North got caught by another sucker punch just before the break, North lost control of the ball high into the oppositions half and another long ball caught out North’s defenders leave the Summertown striker free to slot the ball home.
It was North’s who had the wind at their backs for the second half, though they didn’t capitalize on the chances that were created. Tom Weedon, James Turner and Chardex Pavier all missing the target when well placed. North gave themselves a chance with thirty minutes remaining, James Turner picked his spot nicely from the edge box to make it 3 – 2. North continued to search for an equalizer, but continued to be thwarted by resolute defending. Late on any chances of getting back into the game were blown away, Hayden Morse lost the ball deep in his own half which left the Summertown striker a free run on goal, Sam Oliver’s vain attempt to force the striker wide saw him go down and the referee duly awarded a penalty, the spot kick was converted to complete the scoring.
