John Mills hit his second hatrick in a week making it 9 goals in total over the four games since the season began in this derby game that had North Leigh cruising after 50 mins four goals up and in the end glad to hear the final whistle as the visitors made a spirited fightback.
After less than a minute gone Mills found himself clear of the defence with only the keeper to beat, but James Foster made a good save to push the shot out for a corner. With the Yellows dominating the early play first Foster made a good save from a Kieran Sanders
shot from distance after 5 mins followed shortly after by an equally good save from a fierce Michael Alexis
shot. On 21 mins a move involving Michael Hopkins, Mills and James Organ
saw the ball lobbed over the keeper's head by Organ go fractionally wide of the net.
However on 25 mins Sanders put Mills through on goal who ran forward turned and calmed placed his shot wide of the keeper into the net for the first goal.
Abingdon had their first serious threat on goal on 38 mins when a move invoving Ben Whitehead down the left and Stuart Young was eventually cleared by Stuart Hole for the Yellows. Shortly afterwards Hole threaded a defence splitting pass to Mills who made no mistake in clipping the ball past Foster into the far corner for Leigh's second goal.

Within the space of five minutes Leigh doubled their lead. First on 48 mins Mills knocked in the rebound after a Sanders shot was pushed out by Foster and two minutes later following a corner a Sanders cross to the far post was headed back across goal by Tom Franklin
to Andy Caton who had the simple task of nodding the ball into an empty net from a yard out.
However from this point on saw a determined Abingdon United response. On 54 mins a freekick awarded to the visitors just inside the Yellows half was floated into the box where Luke Carnell beat keeper Sam Warrell
to the ball to head a well worked goal. 4 mins later Stuart Young got on the end of a cross from the left to steer it past a stranded Warrell and suddenly the visitors sensed they could grab something from the game. With both sides introducing substitutes and with the rain lashing down, Leigh fought a determined U's side looking for a third goal. It came in the 75th minute from Curtis Angell who scored a fabulous goal from an acute angle wide right towards the corner flag. The ball flew past Warrell and hit the net on the opposite side.
However Leigh continued to battle and on 82 mins they effectively sealed the game when Sanders went on another of his tricky runs past a string of defenders almost to the byline and shot towards goal. Although Foster saved the shot, the ball rebounded to Michael Alexis
who hammered the ball home for his first goal in North Leigh colours.
A few minutes later Leigh new signing Jacob Walcott
almost added a sixth as his left foot drive skimmed the far post with the keeper beaten.
