3. NRUFC COMMUNITY


Northwich RUFC has a strong community spirit and ethos, from its formation in 1965. In the early years it was central in providing and hosting Band nights for Northwich residents at the Memorial Hall and entering a "troup" in the Northwich Carnival parade.
In 1985 NRUFC hosted and organised The Festival of Sport a 1 day event promoting local sports clubs, this annual event now the Northwich Festival has developed into a 3 day extravaganza of family entertainment, raising funds for local charities.
In 2003 NRUFC were the 1st Cheshire rugby club to be awarded the Sports England Clubmark award.
The following year, Northwich RUFC become Cheshire Club of the Year. Organised by Sport Cheshire this annual event rewards sports people, clubs and volunteers across Cheshire. This year Northwich were to acheive the SportsMark award for their outstanding contribution to community sport across Vale Royal.
2005 Northwich Rugby Club were voted as Cheshire’s ‘Community Club of the Year’ by SportCheshire. NRUFC gained recognition for the work and commitment put in by the all the club members who give their ‘voluntary’ time to the running and organising of the wide range of events the club runs. Presented to only a small number of clubs per region the club received a special RFU award plague.
Then again in 2006 celebrated after scooping the prestigious ‘Sport England Community Club of the Year Award’ at the BBC North West Sports Awards. along with receiving the Communtity Club of the Year award for an unprecedated third year running.

Rugby for people with disabilities
As part of its role as a community rugby club, Northwich Rugby club have arranged a series of special rugby sessions . This initiative has been set up in response to a request from Vale Royal Borough Council's recently established ‘Mid Cheshire Multi Sports Club’. The club has been set up as a joint venture between Vale Royal and the Primary Care Trust, catering for young people from the age of 6 to 16 interested in sport. The aim of assisted rugby coaching structured to enable people with disability the chance to try something different, were run in conjunction with Mid Cheshire College

Holiday Camps
The club also continue to run the hugely successful Try Rugby Days, started in 2009, the Northwich RUFC Try Rugby Days have attracted over 400 children, with the highest days attendance in the 80’s, the majority of children experiencing Rugby for the first time and subsequently registering with the club.
The days are delivered by qualified club coaches, with senior players and RFU coaches in attendance.
Children are spilt into their appropriate age groups and take part in many aspects of the game including, rucking, mauling, tackling, kicking, tagging and much more, all delivered in a safe and secure environment. Lunchtimes see the children take part in “Northwich has got Talent” where they may showcase other talents such as singing, dancing and telling jokes, we have even had a Martial Arts demonstration.

Tournaments/Festivals/Tag
Northwich Junior Colts10s tournament is hosted by the Junior section at Northwich RUFC and is held as part of the Northwich Festival which runs over the August Bank holiday weekend, games are played on the Sunday.
NRUFC host various Try-rugby, Touch-rugby festivals for all family member participation throughout the year both in and out of season, along with organising team tours.
As part of our community delivery we organise annual school Tag tournaments, and special "World Cup Tag" competitions, (see next page).

The days are delivered by club coaches, with senior players and RFU coaches in attendance. All coaches are RFU qualified and hold enhanced CRB certificates and there are always qualified 1st aiders on hand.
