8th December kicks-off at 1pm with a FREE 3 course xmas meal on a first come first served basis.
“Get in ..What a result. Amazing courage and determination”. Announced the 2nd XV spectators and “Great battling performance” greeted the 1st XV victories last weekend.
Did you know? 8th December 65 BC, Quintus Horatius Flaccus writer and orator of satire and odes was felicitously daring in his choice of words and known as being "a master of the graceful sidestep" was born, (maybe he was an early rugby player also). And similarly our own Postie was opposite only last week, saying prior to visiting the Isle of Man “I think it’s a free hit for us”.
Northwich welcome Broughton Park to Moss Farm 2.15 kick-off. With Northwich moving into 3rd and Broughton Park in 9th do not for a second think Northwich are in for an easy ride, there are only 7 points separating the teams and similarly Broughton are on a four fixture winning streak. Commencing with an impressive win over Douglas, before battering Birkenhead Park 52-5 and last week at home, defeating a strong Warrington outfit 35-10.
It was the first time in 2 years that Warrington travelled to Chorlton and Broughton Park were in no mood to make things easy for their opposition as they were well beaten by a well-drilled, physical Broughton Park outfit. BP got the electronic scoreboard ticking over after only five minutes. It would appear Warrington could find no answer to Broughton Park’s rushing defence, although this constantly flirted with the offside line (according to both reports). As a result, they were unable to generate any real forward momentum so that they were held almost totally in their own half.
Postie was asked how he would approach this weekend’s fixture his reply “If rugby was a board game. And time was our opponent. If we procrastinate, we will lose the game. There is no problem to be solved, merely a reality to be experienced”, Did he just sidestep me!
Northwich 2 on the road to Whitchurch 2. Both teams enjoying wins, in their last two outings, Whitchurch just above the relegation danger zone beat C&N 0-8 and are another team deducted points for breaking league rules. Last month Whitchurch 2 conceded a fixture whilst their 3rd team played, resulting in -2 points for both teams.
A Northwich victory 14-12 meant they leap-frogged the defeated Didsbury Toc H and move up to 6th in Division 2 South.
Prior to last weekend’s fixtures Postie spoke to Northwich Guardian regards the fortunes of the 1st XV and his comments can be duplicated for the Northwich 2s.
Improvements over the last 7 weeks mean the team is not under any pressure. During that period Northwich have won four & drawn one. In comparison to their opening five fixtures winning only once on the opening campaigns fixture beating Winnington Park 66-5.
And Northwich have only lost one away fixture so far this season being their second fixture against C&N in a very close contest losing 31-24.
As Postie quoted about the 1st so applies to the 2s “After a difficult start to the campaign, it feels like our patience in this side is being rewarded.”
Northwich 3 have no fixture until 15th December.
Northwich Colts host Ormskirk colts at Moss Farm Sunday 9th, 2pm kick-off. That’s if the player’s want it? Last week Northwich conceded yet another away fixture, there were a number of reasons injury being one, two players in the IOM, leaving only nine available on the day. Coach Daley is becoming frustrated he said “there are a number of younger players with exceptional talent and potential who are not yet of age to play senior rugby as some of their peers are doing”. And unfortunately some have a “can’t be arsed attitude” it is now up to the senior players in the squad to encourage their teammates to attend training & Sunday fixtures.
