This weeks opposition
Rugby chatter Home & Away
Hands up who else is fed-up with the bloody weather! Yet another washout at Moss Farm with all games cancelled. St Benedicts rearranged fixture now becomes a re-rearranged fixture. The senior colts were desperate for a game and reversed their fixture travelling to Preston Grasshoppers on Sunday, their first game since 3rd December.
17th February 1795 Thomas Seddal harvests 8.3-kg potato from his garden in Chester, if the pitch’s don’t improve shortly Northwich Rugby Club may well put a challenge in for this record.
Lets stay positive this weekend Northwich host Altrincham Kersal, AK had no game last weekend and are in 12th position 6 points behind Carlisle, so no matter the result this weekend they will not be moving. Whilst at the top end of the table fixture congestion & heavy pitch conditions could have a large impact on a number of chasing clubs as Vale of Lune found last week losing to Rochdale. If sport was so simple there would be no place for the unexpected and a touch of drama.
Supporters & guests are welcome to our FREE pre-match hot meal from 1pm, provided by todays sponsor Ken Houghton, who I’m informed will offering free drinks of 2018 Chateauneuf-Du-Mossi H2O to all.
In the last meeting Northwich ran out 12-27 victors with a bonus point recorded and a brace of tries from Skinkis, where once again wet conditions played a major role. With both side making handling errors it was clear that a cautious approach was required. Northwich’s second try coming from the footballing skills of man of the match Heywood, dribbling his way around the AK defense before kicking on, and winning the foot race to touchdown.
Northwich 2 produced the most embarrassing headline of last weekend “No Game, Northwich unable to raise a team”. Come on players find your balls and take them with you this Saturday to Burnage 2. The last fixture between the teams ended in a 26-26 draw.
Northwich 3 will be looking to leap-frog their opposition Marple who are only 3 points above, earlier result between the 2 teams saw a resounding Northwich win 68-26 which prompted captain George Goodfellow to begin speaking of promotion chances, unfortunately this did not materialise, but with games in hand Northwich 3 could achieve 3rd or 4th spot by the season end.
Northwich colts visit Rossendale on Sunday 2pm KO. Northwich winning last week in their first game in 8 weeks beating Preston Grasshoppers. After such a long absence Northwich were told to simply have fun be inventive and use their pace which they duly did running in 5 tries with 3 converted.
Remember if the weather intervenes once again there will be live sports on the big screen in the clubhouse on Saturday, either Leicester v Harlequins or Leinster v Scarlets or have a nap in front of the fire if Winter Olympics are on.
Enjoy your weekends rugby
