Cold & competative in Kendal.
But another loss.
The relative league position of the two teams, with Kendal sitting at the top and Northwich at the bottom, suggested this should be an easy victory, but Kendal were made to work hard for the victory, which will take them to a Cup Final for a second season running.
Prior to kick off there was a strong icy wind blowing across the field, and flurries of snow, but this eased off in time for kick off.
It took Kendal just two minutes to open their scoring. A good break through the middle, set up ball for the forwards to re-cycle. The ball was moved wide for left wing to score 5v0.
Kendal dominated play, but it took until a quarter of an hour of play for a second score. Kendal going over after a good run down the right wing. In poor conditions, a very good attempt at the conversion, but it just failed. 10v0. A further try ten minutes later, came out of nothing. Another run down the right wing appeared to have been stopped, but he was not held and set off again, managing to avoid the touchline and beat several defenders to score. 15v0.
Five minutes later on one of their first visits to the Kendal half, when awarded a penalty despite the score line Northwich decided to take the points. 15v3. The final score of the half was a second try from left wing, after a good break in the back row. 20v3
Northwich dominated most of the second half, keep the ball tight in hand but rarely tested defence.
Against the run of play, the only score of the half came from Kendal. After half an hour of play there was a good cross field run from within his half by left wing, who rather than go for the score himself, passed to right winger, who went over under the posts for his third try. Conversion added. 27v3.
