Russian dolls score 4
Halloween the Goughlets return
Northwich 3rds 51 v Macclesfield 4th 5.
Gough family make a big impact on the game with dad and his two sons each scoring a try.
The first cold snap of the season but things soon warmed up with the first try within 12 minutes. Northwich had a line out in the Macclesfield half winning the ball which was given to Liam Gough who ran up the touch line to score a try.
The next try came from the forwards winning the ball which was passed along the line, reaching the winger Liam Hampson who scored the try.
The next try came from Macclesfield’s kick off to the Northwich forwards who took the game to them and after winning six phases Liam Gough retained the ball to score his second try.
Jez Gough got the next try by crashing his way over the try line, converted by Harry Naylor.
The final try of the half came from Robbo picking the ball up from the base of the scrum making ground before passing the ball to Harry Naylor who then went on to score one of his typical trade mark tries by going on a solo run, avoiding a couple of tackles before scoring.
Half time score 27-0.
Macclesfield kicked off the second half with Northwich collecting the ball and attacking Macclesfield’s defence and after several phases Harry Naylor took the ball to score his second try.
Macclesfield scored the next try, their only points of the game.
Northwich next try came from the line out in Macclesfield’s 22 area, Northwich won the ball then with a rolling maul made steady progress towards Macclesfield’s try line, Sam Gough got the ball to score a true forwards try.
Getting boring now! but the next try, and his hat trick, came from Harry Naylor again with an individual effort, which he converted. (The only down side to this try is that Harry forgot to get the jug in but there’s always next week).
The final try came from a great team effort with forwards taking the game to Macclesfield before releasing the backs who made a number of openings before passing it to the winger Liam Hampton to score, try converted by Harry Naylor.
This was a great team effort which is backed up by the score. It was great to have the Gough boys, Robbo and Jon Caufield making their first appearance this season.
Man of the match is Harry Naylor
