Last Game and What a Game !

A great way to end the season !

It's been a funny old season, 17 competitive Games, 9 wins, 2 draws 6 losses, most importantly 6 games cancelled through bad weather. When you cannot get a consistent flow of games, it is hard to keep all the lads focused, but i must say these guys have stayed committed, and i thank them for it, the back end of the season, with holidays, school trips and other commitments, meant we had a bare 15 to travel to Parkonians.

Myself Gibbo, Neil and Dave stood on the car park, with 11 forwards and 4 backs, trying to mastermind some form of team, so the brain trust decided to play a flanker and hooker as centres, a 2nd row on the wing, and our Cheshire centre as Full back, i mean as Dr pepper said "what's the worst that can happen"

To be fair, the pitch was in a terrible state, it was wet and very heavy, so we knew it was going to be hard, as with 15 players we could not substitute any players. Our message was simple, lads go out have fun, remember why you play rugby, laugh smile just play.

We started well 2 trys up in 10 mins, our 2nd row "winger" showing lightning speed and pace. At this point i had to calm Kelsall down, trying to recruit a 2nd row in his back line!!!

Must admit Parkonians put us under some pressure and scored a try, well deserved, the catalyst for change is this game was when we were attacking a sure fire try, chris pops the ball out wide to Tom C, but from nowhere it was intercepted, and Parkonians went in 14-10 at the break.

Message was simple at half time, have fun, get yourself going, the talisman captain in Harvey delivered a "Winston Churchill" type speech, the lads gave cries of "who are we" !!! and for the next 30 mins, i personally witnessed some of the best most exciting rugby i have watched at this age group. Our lads became so inventive, for example Harry dink's a 25 yard chip into Christian hands, he is tackled offloads one handed behind his own back to connor who side steps 3 players try scored! ( move was better than i described).

Christian, is a very talented rugby player, and today showed he is more than just a Hooker well done

Ollie Kenny, and Tom W were having the games of their lives today, and for Ollie" Pele" Kenny his best moment was, Parkonians kicked of, it fell short of ten yards, there lads forgot about playing to the whistle and ollie kenny, dribbled the ball with his feet to within 5 yards of there line, again collecting the ball one handed taking the tackle with a pop off to Tom c for a try, amazing stuff.

The team passed the ball brilliantly, strong in defence, and have to say completely knocked the stuffing out of parkonians by the end of the game. Credit to parkonians, gave us a good first half, but we hit a whole new level 2nd half.

To show the standard of the game, 2 hat trick heros in Harvey and Tom clarke, harvey gives it all, passion pride and delivers, Tom Clarke quite unassuming, but a 2nd row scoring 3 trys from the wing, that's talent!

All the lads today played well, Kelsall in the 2nd half changed the running line with better vision, Harry all over the show, kicking passing doing the job a scrum half should do.

Jack the centre " flanker" scoring a try, and Elliot stanley running 40 yards onto a superb kick from harry to one hand scoop the ball and touch down.

Connor scoring but making a tackle an England international would be proud off, a fantastic kid, and a fantastic find

For me today it was the players who don't normally steal the headlines, like Ollie, Luke, nathan, Mitchell, Tom W Elliot Hj, Dan these guys week in week out do their jobs, some waiting for there chance to start on a weekly basis, today, and i am so glad you all did, it was a absolute pleasure to watch the standard today. Tom W was a man mountain today, it was amazing to see how far he has come, and a real credit to himself.

Honours for MOM, were split between 4, Harvey, Tom C, Tom W and Ollie "pele" Kenny.

When you consider some of the lads who could not attend, and you guys produce a performance like this, it has made the season worthwhile, as a coach, a parent and a supporter, i thank you all for this display!

next year onwards and upwards
