1st XI beat Ryde Casuals by 9 wickets
3-12 from Chris Williams and 30* from Harry Collier see Woodies to comfortable victory
Dave Neal took charge of the 1st XI for the first time on Saturday and got off to a good start by winning the toss and electing to bowl first. Opening bowlers, Ashley and Nathan Goldsmith started well and had the Casuals batsmen under continuous pressure. Despite the low run rate, it took until the 16th over for the first wicket to fall, Nathan Goldsmith clean bowling the Ryde Casuals opener. Northwood debutant, Kerry Rice, then took a wicket with just his fourth ball to leave the opposition 34-2 off 18 overs. Simon Goldsmith then continued his form from last weekend, picking up two quick wickets, a caught and bowled and a catch from wicket-keeper Dave Neal. After Simon finished his eight over spell, another left-arm spinner, Ben Duggan, came into the attack and made an immediate impact with two wickets in his first over. Off spinner, Chris Williams, then took two wickets to leave Ryde Casuals struggling on 60-8, before a Mark Tuckwell run out and a third wicket for Williams saw the Casuals all out for just 67 in the 38th over. Williams ended with 3-12, Duggan 2-3, Simon Goldsmith 2-11, Rice 1-8 and Nathan Goldsmith 1-16. Northwood opted to open the batting with two 14 year olds - Ben Duggan and Harry Collier - and they coped well with the bowling, 27-0 from the first six overs. With sensible batting, along with some exciting shots, Duggan and Collier seemed to be easing to a 10 wicket win for Northwood, until Duggan was caught and bowled for 26 with the score on 64. Harry Collier then scored the winning run, ending on 30 not out, with Gavin Paddock 2 not out at the other end.
