Northwood beat Cowes in local derby but 2nd XI lose at Freshwater

Saturday 4th June - League - Northwood v Cowes
Stand in skipper Nick Heelan won the toss against Cowes and elected to bat first. The innings got off to a great start and Tommy Barton bought his fifty up in 28 balls. However, he was bowled in the 14th over for 59. Nick Heelan was then caught in the 19th over for 30. Gavin Paddock only lasted 19 balls before he was bowled for 11 and Jeff Barrett lasted for 13 balls before he was given out LBW for the same score, leaving Northwood 180-4 from 29.2 overs. Matt Heelan, bought up his fifty in the next over, but was soon overtaken by some explosive and destructive hitting from Dave Neal. Northwood were on 261-4 off 35 overs, but the best was yet to come in the final 5 overs of the innings. The Cowes captain came on to bowl and was hit all over the ground, going for 60 off 2 overs, Dave Neal bringing up his 100 off just 35 balls. Matt Heelan then bought up his 100 in the final over, Northwood finishing on a massive 369-4, Heelan hitting 112 not out from 72 balls and Neal 121 not out from 39 balls. The Northwood innings included 39 fours and 20 sixes. Andy Ball then continued the Northwood momentum into the second innings, picking up a wicket in the first over. However, Cowes batted positively and were 68-1 from 10 overs. Simon Goldsmith then picked up two quick wickets however, soon followed by wickets for Ashley and Nathan Goldsmith, leaving Cowes 141-5 and effectively ending any chance of a Cowes victory. Graham Gregory then picked up the sixth wicket before two more for Nathan Goldsmith, Cowes finishing on 280-8. Nathan Goldsmith took 3-65, Simon Goldsmith 2-57, Graham Gregory 1-28, Ashley Goldsmith 1-33 and Andy Ball 1-43.

Tuesday 31st May - Friendly - Whitecroft v Northwood
A Northwood batting collapse meant that they only scored 106-7 from their 20 overs, Daniel Bell top scoring with a brilliant 36 not out, Gavin Paddock adding 18 and Matt McCallum 15. Nathan Proud took 2-21 for the Woodies, Ben Duggan 2-32 and Keegan Brown 1-3 but Whitecroft came out as 4 wicket winners with 5 overs still remaining.

Thursday 2nd June - Friendly - Northwood v Full Tossers
Gavin Paddock scored 25 retired, Harry Collier 23 not out and Ashley Goldsmith 14 as Northwood posted 124-6. James Ivory took 2-8 and there were wickets for 6 other bowlers, including Harry Collier who took 1-0 from 2 overs as the Full Tossers scored 108-8, Northwood winning by 16 runs.

Saturday 4th June - League - Freshwater v Northwood II
A very young 2nd XI travelled to Freshwater and were bowled out for just 59. Captain Mark Tuckwell battled through the pain of being hit on the ear and top scored with 20, and Ben Baker hit 10 not out. However, the Freshwater batsmen had no problems and won by 10 wickets.

Sunday 5th June - Friendly - Northwood Under 11s v GKN
A magnificent batting display from GKN proved too good for the Under 11s on Sunday. James Whitewood scored 20 not out, Jason Gane added 6 and Joseph O’Reilly hit 3 as Northwood scored 247-7. In reply, GKN hit 324-4, the three top scorers all taking a wicket each.

Sunday 5th June - Friendly - Northwood v Rankins
In damp conditions, Northwood posted a respectable 209 all out, Ashley Goldsmith top scoring with 60, Daniel Bell adding 44 not out and Nathan Proud 37. Simon Goldsmith then took 4-6, Nathan Proud 2-29 and Daniel Bell 2-39 as Rankins were bowled out for 131, a 78 run win.

Monday 6th June - Northwood Under 15s v Ryde Cavaliers
54 not out from Josh Procter recovered Northwood’s slow start and pushed Northwood on to 139-2, Ben Duggan hitting 43 not out and Rob Bolwell 20. Niall Casson then took 2-7, Alix Hamilton 2-11 and James Ivory 2-15 as Cavaliers were restricted to 87-9, a 45 run win.
