Failure to turn possession into points

The Planters failed to build on Saturday's win at Harwich going down by three goals at Walsham-le-Willows. Matty Robinson joined the list of absentees through illness although Neil Bugdale and Paul Atkins rejoined the squad. Bugdale replaced Robinson and Tom Youngs came in for Lee Hunter.

Whilst the final scoreline flattered the home team it was a disappointing performance as a failure to take chances cost the Planters dear.

As early as the sixth minute Tom Youngs saw his close range shot blocked by home keeper Duncan McAnally's leg and the Planters were made to pay when in the 19th minute James Tatham raced away from the visiting defence took the ball into the area and calmly slotted past Ben Nower.

Tatham could have doubled the lead three minutes later but this time Nower denied the striker blocking his low shot. Good work down the left by Damian Hilton, Jordan Blyth and Neil Bugdale saw the latters shot blocked by a defender. Ten minutes before the break Gavin Frost's corner was headed wide by Darren Coe at the far post.

The Planters went close to equalising eight minutes after the break when Bugdale's cross to the back post was headed back across the face of goal by Hilton and just eluded Youngs. Bugdale was involved again four minutes later playing in Chris Squires whose shot flew narrowly over.

The Planters hopes took a cruel blow in the 66th minute when a James Attwood shot took a wicked deflection and flew into Nower's bottom corner.

Planters substitute Lee Hunter took advantage of a defensive mistake but saw his chip float wide of the far post. Squires free kick flew wide and Hilton's free kick was headed on by Coe but Blyth's shot was straight at McAnally.

Lee Sim added insult to injury in the final minute when his shot from 10 yards crept through Nower and despite Steve Shipley's attempted clearance the Planters found themselves three down.
