email scam - beware

January 6, 2012
RFU clubs beware of email scam

It has recently come to the RFU’s attention that an email scam is in circulation. The scam email purports to be sent by an RFU affiliated rugby club and asks its recipients to pay £300 in return for signing up to a trial rugby program run by the club. The club in question and its Constituent Body have both confirmed that this email has not been sent by the club and is a hoax.

We therefore wanted to alert all RFU affiliated clubs of the scam so that you are aware that this is happening and so you can be on alert in case your club’s name is also fraudulently used in this way.

If you are aware of any such activity in relation to your club or any other club or of any other suspicious emails or scams, please inform Alys Lewis at the RFU on alyslewis@rfu.com.

Kind Regards,

Alys Lewis
