Tess' Day - 25th February 2012

Tess' Day - 25th February 2012 image

Thought long and hard over what we should call a day when we remember the Silver Fox and what he would have thought – keep it simple and keep it short

Tess’ wife, Ann and her sons are coming to the club on the day to present the trophy to the club who will then present it to the member of the 3rds or Centurians whom the Captains feel has given most to his team and to the club – he doesn’t have to be the fastest player or to have scored the most points, but like Tess, has given everything to his team and his team mates to ensure they enjoyed their Saturdays.
The Silver Fox will never be forgotten by those of us who were privileged enough to play with him or enjoy the sheer pleasure of his company, and hopefully, this trophy, kindly donated by Ann, will make sure he’s remembered by our younger players who never had the chance of meeting the great man.
On the day, the 3rds are playing Northern at home whilst the Centurians host North Shields – both good games worth watching and both kicking off at 2.15pm. Ian Smeatham is taking a day off work especially to referee the Northern game.
Alternative entertainment is also on the TV on the day with Ireland entertaining Italy (KO 1.00pm) followed by England vs Wales live from Twickenham at 4.00pm
We’re trying to get back as many of the old players who played with Tess over the years (there’s hundreds as he must have played for almost every team we’ve put out over the past four decades or so!) so do please pass the word around.
C’mon lads - let’s have a good turn out even if you’re not playing and sink a pint or two for Tess!
