The RFU has launched the ‘Meet Your Inner Warrior’ campaign, aimed at encouraging more women and girls to take up contact rugby.
As part of the campaign, 100 ‘Warrior Camps’ will take place in rugby clubs across the country from August 31 to September 16 , offering fun rugby taster sessions for women who want to try out the sport before joining their local club.
The Warrior Camps will teach participants key introductory skills and drills for rugby, with help on hand every step of the way. All people need to take part are a pair of trainers and their usual workout gear.
“We set ourselves an ambitious target when launching our women and girls strategy in 2014; to get 25,000 women participating in contact rugby," said Steve Grainger, RFU Rugby Development Director.
"Despite the ever-growing appetite for the sport that we have witnessed through achieving our target one year ahead of schedule, we know there is still work to be done to ensure women are aware of the opportunities out there for them to participate in rugby, whether for fun or at a competitive level.
“The upcoming ‘Warrior Camps’ are a great chance for newcomers or returning players to take part in the sport through fun and informal sessions to encourage them to pursue it further.”
With plenty of help on hand, we will introduce you to the basics of rugby - passing, kicking and tackling, coupled with enjoyable fitness routines - helping you step out of your comfort zone and unearth your inner warrior.
We already have a small group of girls aged 11 to 17 who will welcome anyone wanting to give this great sport a try commitment free.
Come down on a Sunday morning to the Weddington Road site and join in, starts at 10:15 until 11:30 on the main pitch.
