Nuneaton Borough 1-4 Racing Club Warwick
Nuneaton Borough fell to a 4-1 defeat in the first home match of their Under 19 Alliance title defence.
Vijay Seenath scored for the Boro’ but a second half double inside three second half minutes killed the match as Racing Club Warwick were victorious.
Warwick got off to a flying start after they were gifted possession and Madundo Semhimbo was able to fire into the far side of the goal in the fifth minute. It could have been worse but for a great save from Joe Fenwick in the ninth minute. Boro’ had lost the ball in their own half and Hardwean found himself through on goal.
Fenwick had to be sharp again to save from Tyrone Richards as Racing Club created far the better chances in the opening exchanges. Boro’s first real opening came in the 26th minute when Bruce Tsinonis got clear on goal only for Ryan Woodward to block his effort.
Tsinonis threatened again in the 32nd minute, his free kick from distance hitting the stanchion. Luis Corcoran seized on to Tyler Jones’ well-weighted throughball and tucked the ball under Woodward only to see his effort ruled out for offside.
Boro’ were starting to take control of the game but Richards’ curling effort on the break served as a reminder that the visitors still possessed plenty of attacking threat. Tsinonis used his pace to easily beat a defender and his deflected shot could have gone anywhere but sailed over.
The equaliser felt as though it was coming and it was well worth the wait, Seenath hit a net-bursting drive from outside the area in the 43rd minute after Tsinonis had picked him out in space. Nuneaton were in complete control of the game at that point and only a goalline clearance stopped Corcoran from giving them the lead.
Half time came at the wrong time for Andy Turner’s side, they were dominant towards the end of the first half and Warwick came out blazing the second. Caine West restored their lead in the 48th minute and Semhimbo added a third just a minute later.
Racing added a fourth in the 67th minute against the run of play, and there was a large slice of fortune involved as Jodi Simoni deflected a shot past Fenwick. Boro’ couldn’t get back in to the match on a hot September afternoon and will have to regroup before their FA Youth Cup match with Halesowen Town next Thursday evening.
