Bustleholme Youth 0-2 Nuneaton Borough Academy
Boro' youngsters progress in FA Youth Cup...
Nuneaton Borough’s Academy side progressed to the second round of the FA Youth Cup on a rain-soaked Tuesday evening, in the shadow of the M5, as they eventually found a way past a robust Bustleholme side. Goals from Luis Corcoran, his seventh in three matches, and Javarn Hines were enough to see the Boro’ through.
The first real chance of the match came in the 10th minute as Vijay Seenath picked the ball up in the Bustleholme half and, as he wasn’t closed down, unleashed a stinging drive that had Jake Richards diving full-stretch to tip it around the post. Tyler Jones headed narrowly wide from the resulting corner.
The hosts first effort on goal was a direct free-kick that Anton Nesbeth fired over the bar. Joe Fenwick had to make his first save in the 24th minute, but it was routine as George Bentley’s free-kick was hit straight at him.
Just before the half hour mark Richards made a second good save, denying Jack Blackham’s bullet header at his near post. Jones and Seenath both found their way in to the Referee’s notebook late in the first half of what was turning in to a niggly affair.
Hines took on a couple of defenders in the opening minute of the second half, firing his effort in to the side netting as he lost his balance. Boro’ can feel a little aggrieved to not be awarded a penalty when Goodyear was scythed down in the box on the hour mark.
Corcoran, who scored four in the previous round, had his best chance of the match when Frank Goodyear escaped down the right and pulled across for the striker, a Bustleholme defender got a touch on it and it was enough to stop Corcoran getting a clean shot off.
Moments later Corcoran took the next opportunity, heading Harry Boorman’s cross inside Richards’ left-hand post. The hosts almost levelled within a few minutes, with a direct free-kick flashing past Fenwick’s left stick.
Goodyear was unlucky not to get his name on the scoresheet, ghosting past three challenges only to see his goal-bound effort blocked. With a little over five minutes to play Hines rose highest to power home a header in from Goodyear’s ball to put the match beyond Bustleholme.
Andy Turner’s side will now await the draw to see who they face next as they progress towards the first round proper.
