Nuneaton Borough held out for a goalless draw after being reduced to ten men. With goalkeeper Louis Gray dismissed outfield player Mike Calveley had to go in goal for ten minutes on Boro’s visit to Hurst Cross.

Boro’ started the brighter in the opening stages of the game, with James Hurst having a long range effort deflected just over the bar with eight minutes gone, whilst Miles Addison had a header just over on 11 minutes.

A Scott Sephton shot from just outside the box took a deflection and drifted wide with 15 minutes gone, in Ashton’s first attack of the game.

Robins striker Matthew Chadwick had a great chance after Boro’ failed to clear, he scuffed his shot on 18 mins. Courtney Richards left foot strike from distance whistled just past the post a few minutes later.

Addison was a constant threat from set-pieces but couldn’t find the target. Ash Carter, who gave a man of the match performance, made an important clearance on an Ashton counter attack down the other end around the half hour mark.

HT 0-0

The second half got underway without any changes for either side, and Boro’ had the first effort on goal, Owain Jones shooting narrowly wide.

James Wesolowski picks up a knock and was replaced by Michael Tweed. Matthew Chadwick, who was a constant threat on the counter, got a snapshot away with an hour gone, but his shot was wide of the upright.

Another change for Boro’ saw Kairo Mitchell come on for Jones. Ash Carter did well on the left to cross a ball in which tested Josh Ollerenshaw in the Robins’ goal.

Chadwick got the better of Carter and took a shot from a tight angle on the right forcing a good save from Gray.

Enoch Andoh came on for Dior Angus with 20 minutes to play, but with Gray sent off for handling outside the area shortly after Boro’ had to pack men behind the ball to maintain the status quo.

Calveley went in goal but the resulting free kick was hit way over. Tweed made an excellent run entering stoppage time to get his team well up the pitch and Boro’ managed to see out the four minutes of time added on.

FT 0-0

It was a difficult trip for the Boro’ and they negotiated it well to come away from Hurst cross with a hard-fought point. Next up for Boro’ is a home game against Hereford on Tuesday 7th with a 19:45 kick off at Liberty Way.
