Nuneaton Borough 0 Hereford 0
Nuneaton Borough picked up a point from their first home match of the season with a battling goalless draw versus Hereford.
The visitors, buoyed by an opening day 3-0 victory at home to Blyth Spartans, raced out of the traps and came closest to breaking the deadlock early on, Harry White directing his header wide of the mark following a Danny Greenslade cross.
There were few chances early on as both sides cancelled each other out but on the half hour mark the Boro’ began to make their presence known, forcing Martin Horsell into a couple of good saves, most notably a driven effort from Mike Calveley.
Moments later, Horsell was in the thick of things once again, saving from Dior Angus, before the forward was forced off injured in the 40th minute.
The second half was much more open than the first with both teams creating chances to snatch the three points, Lewis Smith had a volley blocked for the visitors and Miles Addison headed narrowly over for the Boro’.
Loanee debutant, Lewis Freestone must have thought he’d broken the deadlock when his effort eluded Horsell, only to see Keiran Thomas head his goal-bound effort over the bar and behind for a corner.
With a minute of normal time remaining Hereford had the final opportunity to break the tie, but Louis Gray saved with his legs to maintain his unbeaten record between the sticks for the Boro’.
Nicky Eaden will have been delighted with the work-rate and effort from his side over the opening two matches of the season. He now has a couple of days to work with them before we host Chorley on Saturday the 11th of August, as we go in search of our first win of the season.
