Oadby battled hard but failed to hang on to a slender 1-0 half time lead in Tuesdays Westerby Cup Quarter Final.
Barwell who ply their trade 3 levels higher, rested 3/4 players otherwise were at full strength. The opening exhanges were played at tempo. Neither side created clear cut chances, but Barwell came closest as they pushed and probed Oadby back for the first 20 minutes.
Oadby always looked threatening and after 30 minutes a flick on from Danny Wilson to Matt Moore who in turn squared for Jermaine Gordon to score his 9th goal in 9 games.
Jon Stevenson blasted home a second from 25 yards only for it to be ruled out due to an earlier challenge on the Barwell keeper.
It was pretty much even stevens until the break.
Second half Barwell changed their shape in search of an equaliser, but the best 2 chances fell to Oadby as Matt Moore raced through only to miss his opportunity, and then got through again but squared to nobody.
The match became stretched , but from an Oadby corner Barwell broke and the menacing pace of Towers eventually told as he broke free and squared for Barwell to equalise on 70 minutes. Oadby were visibly drained and the eventual winner came from a penalty when Latham brought down Towers on 80. Oadby battled in vain but failed in 2 attempts from set pieces to force the game in extra time.
Final score 1-2. Good luck to Barwell in the next round.
