U18s win the League Cup beating Aylestone Park 3-0
The game started out as a fairly even affair, with probably Aylestone having the slightly upper hand, using with their larger physical presence to command more of the possession over Oadby. However, Oadby soon got into their stride and produced some nice flowing football and created the first real chance of the game with the ball reflexing off both posts! However, neither team could manage to gain complete control and the game seemed to be heading towards extra time and penalties.
The second half was much more promising. Both teams upped their pace and the game became quite the hot contest that many of the travelling fans had hoped for, with Oadby managing to gain the advantage over their opponents, with another seemingly easy goal missing from a few yards out. Credit had to be given to the Aylestone goalkeeper for keeping the score line level. However, this did not last long and the deadlock was finally broken from a lovely run by Brown and a calm finish to place the ball in the back of the Aylestone net. Another goal quickly followed as Brown neatly deposited a penalty to make it 2-0. By this time the Aylestone players lost their focus on the game with players protesting with the referee earning a shower of yellow cards and their ‘keeper throwing the ball at Oadby players. There seemed no chance of a late come back after further Aylestone tantrums resulted in them being reduced to ten men.
More simple chances were squandered with Dalby just clearing the crossbar from short range. However, Oadby’s third came from Hurst just before time earning them a thoroughly deserved victory.
Congratulations to all the Youth Team players in winning the cup, everyone at Oadby Town Football Club will be extremely proud to have new silverware gloriously on display at Greene King Park next season.
