The new look Poachers squad look to build on their good progress in the pre-season with a campaign opener at home to Long Eaton on Saturday. Oadby fans will be hoping to see a repeat of some of last seasons cup magic going into this extra preliminary round but as every supporter knows, cup encounters can be unpredictable affairs.

Long Eaton United are celebrating their 60th anniversary this year, formed in 1956 after taking over from the failing Long Eaton Town FC, the club started the 1956-57 season in the Central Alliance Division One South, after losing their first match away at St. Neots, the team bounced back with a first ever home win against Wellingborough Town. The club continued to succeed and finished up 2nd in the League.

60 years on and with highs and lows under its belt, The Blues are yet again opening another new chapter. Ground improvements have been ongoing through the summer, bringing it up to higher league standards. Grange Park has grown out of recognition from all those years ago, upgrading the facilities is paramount to the vision of where the club.

On the pitch, this season began with a new Management Duo, Gary Sucharwych & Ian Robinson. They have already brought in several new signings to strengthen the squad. In their pre-season friendlies, they have seen the team win at home to Chesterfield and Staveley as well as getting a draw against Notts County. On the road they put a great display on to beat Yorkshire side Hall Park Rangers but failed against a strong Ilkeston FC.
