History - OWRFC History
Old Wyggestonian RFC was founded in 1921 as a club for former pupils of Wyggeston School, their home from 1935 being the Oadby Road ground that is now Oval Park, which is still owned to this day by the Old Wyggestonian Association.
Oadby RFC, having formed in 1888, was (and still is) one of the oldest rugby clubs in Leicestershire, and played for many years at the playing fields on Uplands Road in Oadby.
In 1992, Leicester Tigers took out a long term lease from the Old Wyggestonian Association, enabling them to share the ground with Oadby Wyggs and use it as their principal training ground, a partnership that has resulted in the facilities we enjoy today.
In May 2009, the club converted to a Company Limited By Guarantee.
Our senior section regularly fields three sides on a Saturday afternoon, and occasionally during the season our Vets team also takes to the field.
The 1st XV currently play in Midland 3 East (South), having gained promotion from Midlands 4 East (South) at the end of 2009/10 as champions.
After a break of several years, we also now have a Colts squad.
On Sundays, we have a Mini Section with age groups from U7 up to U12, and a Junior Section with age groups from U13 up to U17.
