Oakham RFC - U8s

Rugby Union is a great game, and that is why we are all involved in it, whether we are players, coaches, parents, spectators, referees or volunteers. ENJOYMENT is key to keeping people in the game longer. The Oakham 1st XV depend on this

Under the age of 12 Oakham RFC & The RFU believe that there should be limited focus on structure and drills, as children learn best and gain more enjoyment by doing and taking part. They gain most of their skills by playing small sided games with limited rules and regulations.

Small sided games also assist in increasing INVOLVEMENT. The fewer players there are the more involved they are, either in attack (ball carry, passing, receiving, supporting) or defence (tackling, running, supporting). To enable players to learn and develop it is essential that they have opportunity to practice – not just in coaching sessions but also in games

The under 8s are a strong and proud team within the Mini section of the club.
We train on Sundays (if no game), on the Show Ground, Oakham.

The under 8s compete in a strong invitational fixture structure as well as rugby festivals and tournament’s.

We recommend that all players have the correct equipment including KITE MARK STUDS and gum shields for the age groups playing contact(8-12). To take part you must be registered with the club to qualify for the RFU Insurance cover. Registration is required two weeks from starting with the Club. When playing matches we prefer that all players wear the current Oakham RFC strip which is available from the club shop.

After matches the club provides food for all the players

All new players are most welcome and if you are interested please get in touch with one of the contacts below. You can e-mail those individual’s (NB: these are not personal e-mail addresses) via the website by clicking on their profile and then posting..

We develop well trained players as we move them through the player development structure from mini to senior player but at all times we never forget that there is a great deal of fun to be had too.

We also observe the Good Players and Parents Conduct rules, set by the RFU, which makes for fun off and on the pitch. Oh, and the Café Latte’s and Bacon Rolls are good too.
