Oakwood U13's Beat Spirited Bromley Invicta's Side
Conditions a leveller but Oakwood run out worthy winners
After a weekend of heavy rain, Oakwood U13's found themselves using the back field 11-a-side pitch for the first time this season. With a covering of long, wet grass and the wind and rain continuing, conditions were really a leveller for both sides but Bromley came in to the game showing much more spirit than the previous meeting just a few weeks ago and their quicker tempo and pressure both on and off the ball had Oakwood struggling for fluency against the wind.
Oakwood gave a debut to a new goal keeper, George Edgley, who dealt confidently with a number of early back passes to put the defence at ease right from the start.
Oakwood did architect a number of chances but some excellent, if unorthodox, goal keeping, coupled with poor finishing kept the score down but a goal from James Archard preceded the half being lit up by a pass, fit to grace any stage, from Luqman Makeem, perfectly splitting the Bromley defence to give Kaiden Hummerston the simple task of slotting the ball past the 'keeper.
With Oakwood going in at half-time 2 goals to the good and having the wind at their backs in the second half, George Edgley became a virtual spectator in goal and, after a second goal from Kaiden Hummerston, Oaks introduced Beau Hudd in goal for his finale before his move to Crystal Palace Academy, for which everyone of the players and management at Oakwood wish him every success.
Further goals from Liam Jones and Kaiden Hummerston put the contest out of reach of Bromley and gave Beau Hudd the opportunity to swap positions with Kaiden Hummerston for a run-out up front! However, Beau was not looking like troubling the 'golden boot' award and the game ended 5-0 to Oakwood.
Good luck to Bromley for the rest of the season, we have played them twice already, so will be hoping to see them take as many point as possible from now!
