Oakwood U13's Lose first Match
Strong Santley side leave with all 3 points
Oakwood U13's lost their first match of the 2017/18 season in rather disappointing circumstances. For a game played for 80% in the Santley half, racking up a plethora of chances, to lose 3-1 felt like an injustice. To find ourselves 2-0 down at half time, with Santley only mustering 2 shots on target, to two breakaway chances, was a travesty!
We should have been easily ahead from our early pressure, Kaiden Hummerston having a glancing header from James Archard's excellent corner just skim past the far post and Liam Jones effort, following up after the 'keeper saved, cleared off the line was indicative of our day; excellent play but no luck in front of goal.
Santley did start the second half with more attacking intent and had a good ten minute spell forcing Oakwood back somewhat. But that did not result in any heads dropping and Oakwood were soon back on top but, again, possession and pressure didn't turn into the goals they deserved.
Santley showed a stronger side to their game, in an effort to stem the flow of the game, and it is not often you will see Takunda Musendo knocked off his feet in a challenge.
After a fine 3rd goal from Santley, delivering some incisive passes and a calm, first time finish, James Archard did find the back of the net late on but with not enough time left to repair the defecit, the game finished with a 3-1 defeat and a player of the match award for James Archard. The effort, commitment and desire of all the players could not be faulted and, on another day - hopefully the return match, for one - that should have been a draw or even a win.
Good luck to Santley for the rest of the season; we well be gunning for a reverse result in the reverse fixture for sure!
