U13's Defeat Strong Whyteleafe Side
Oakwood power to win despite slow start
Oakwood's U13's powered their way to a win over a very good Whyteleafe team despite a slow start while getting accustomed to a change of formation to 4-4-2.
The first 10 mins saw Whyteleafe push Oaks back into their own half with some strong pressing play coupled with Oakwood playing a little too narrow exposing their left flank but some excellent defensive play, especially using the off-side trap to excellent effect, and assured goal keeping by George Edgley kept them easily at bay.
But it soon opened up for Oakwood who stamped their authority on the game with goals from Liam Jones and James Archard before Whyteleafe hit back with a well taken goal just before half time, after one lapse in concentration saw the off-side trap sprung on the left wing.
Oakwood didn't let that setback affect their concentration and the second half saw more excellent play result in goals for Finlay Sturgeon and two from player of the match Makenzie Mortimer - including one with his head, both from fine left wing crosses from Takunda Musendo.
With the off-side trap being implemented to perfection, Whyteleafe's only real chance of the 2nd half was scored by a fine cross to pick out the excellently timed run of a Whyteleafe forward who slotted the ball over the advancing George Edgley for their second but, once again, the setback never put Oakwood off their stride and only some fantastic last ditch defending stopped the excellent Bailey Smith adding to Oakwood's tally.
Good luck to Whyteleafe for the rest of the season, they will win more than they lose, I am sure.
