Oban vs FBB Match Report
Match report from game against the Fat Bearded Bastards at Taynuilt, 8th August
In a short social match rather memorable for its unique approach by the visiting team, Oban notched up a comfortable victory against the FBBs on Sunday at Taynuilt. The FBBs (or Fat Bearded B*****s to use their full name) showed a novel approach to determining the order of their playing team by producing a set of scales, with preference given to the heaviest team members. Perhaps recognising that individual stamina might be an issue the FBBs took to field first after winning toss.
Operating with a revised batting line-up given the social nature of the day Oban showed a feast or famine attitude to the FBB bowling attack. Standout performances with the bat were provided by Sukanta Debnath (34), Allan Laycock (20) and Isaac Forster (78). However the innings was also notable for containing the first hat-trick in club history, with Jack Whitley, Calum Lindsay and Davie Brown the unfortunate victims. Despite the regular fall of wickets Oban rapidly tallied up at total of 176 in 22 overs.
After an enojyed tea break the FBBs donned an array of Hawaiian shirts to better appreciate the Taynuilt sun and provide amusement for the spectators. Setting clearly the most attacking fields in club history Oban rotated their bowlers and enjoyed the good humour of the opposition. Wickets were shared out amongst the attack, with the FBB innings closing for a total of 111 off 22 overs.
