Youth Rugby Festival Hits Oban

3 years ago By Sam Martin

Over 100 youth players from across Argyll are taking part in a festival today at Glencruitten Park.

Organised and led by Rugby Development Officer, Allan Wright, the festival has become a highlight of the rugby calendar at Oban Lorne. This year, over 80 minis players will take part in the Dalriada tournament, pitting teams against each other in a league format. The following teams are taking part:

P4/5

  • Lochaber A
  • Lochaber B
  • Taynuilt
  • Oban
  • Isle of Mull
  • Mid-Argyll/Cowal

P6/7

  • Lochaber
  • Taynuilt
  • Oban
  • Mull
  • Mid-Argyll/Cowal

In addition to the mini tournament, the best players from Argyll's Under-14 and Under-16 squads will be taking part in a skills session with coaches, Murray Hamilton, Gerry Ralston, Ryan Jackson and Billy Thomson. These sessions will give intensive training on a number of position-specific skills to the young and ambitious players.

President of Oban Lorne, Dee Bradbury is excited by the presence of so many enthusiastic players at mini and junior level in the area: "It's very important that we nurture our young players so that we can build the club for te future. It's amazing to see just how much interest there is at a grassroots level in Argyll - especially when there are a lot of sports available to our youngsters."
