Oban Lorne seek out the top spot after break

Oban Lorne RFC find themselves in a very good position going into this Saturday’s game against Uddingston RFC.

After a long three-week break, The Green Machine can claim joint top spot in the RBS West Division 3 League if they secure a bonus point win against their rivals. This season has been a successful one so far for Oban, with a 100% win record from their first three games, securing bonus points each time. However Captain, Robin MacQueen is taking nothing for granted:

“We’ve made a really solid start to the campaign this year and morale is high amongst the boys. But we can’t go into any fixture thinking it’s won already. This league is very tight and on any given Saturday, any team can come out on top.”

MacQueen’s statement rang true this past weekend for Oban’s opponents, when Uddingston suffered defeat at home to struggling team, Clydesdale. This defeat for the South Lanarkshire team has opened up a gap at the top of the league. Current leaders, Loch Lomond have played one more game than The Green Machine, but have notched up bonus point wins in each fixture. The Green Machine know that they have to make their game in hand count to stay up there with the league leaders from Dumbartonshire.

The Green Machine will have a harder job to do as they have a few players listed as doubtful through injury, including utility player, Connor Ferris who suffered a twisted knee at training. However, for the first time this season, all three members of the Wright family are available for selection with winger, Allan recovered fully from a knee injury of his own. The experienced winger is happy to be back in contention for a starting berth:

“I’ve been desperate to get back playing again but had to take my time to rehabilitate my knee. It’s tough watching from the sidelines each week, but I’m glad the team has managed to win without me.”

Last year, Uddingston and Oban were playing against each other in the RBS West League Division 2, with both teams suffering relegation at the end of last season. Both games between the sides were tight last season, with each team winning their home fixture. Without doubt, Oban Lorne are aiming to make it a clean sweep this time around. Regardless of the end result, you can be guaranteed an excellent, competitive and fast-paced game of rugby. The game takes place at the Bothwell Castle Policies ground, kick-off at 3.00pm.
