Odd Down Vs Willand Rovers Match Day Preview

I would like to welcome to Combehay Lane Clive Jones an old friend of mine and his table topping willand team and hope the journey up hasn’t been too strenuous.

Well what a week, first we played host to Bitton who on the face of it were lucky to leave with all 3 points. We have all seen the reports on the overzealous man in black from last week who booked 14 players and sent one off when there wasn’t a bad tackle in the game. We defended resolutely with 10 players for the best part of 40 minutes only to concede in the last minute.

We then travelled to last season’s champions Larkhall who made every excuse not to play us with the pitch being bone hard as temperatures dropped to minus 5. We once again took the game to them after conceding a poor goal, but an excellent lob from just inside the box by new boy Brad Norris who had two opportunities cleared off the line in the first half put us back in to contention.

From my point of view there was only going to be one winner as we continued to open up the Larkhall defence time and time again with Troy Simpson and Simon Gilbert tearing apart the Larkhall back line only to see some last ditch defending keep the score all square.

The turning point came on 72 minutes when Dave Cooper reacted badly to a dangerous tackle from one of the Larkhall players and was subsequently sent off reducing us the 10 men for the second game running. Again this didn’t hamper us as a team going forward and we still looked dangerous on the attack.

Once again like Saturday we were hit by a sucked punch and Larkhall hit the winner with a minute left on the clock. I am sure that we have a lesson to learn from this and when you consider that we have such a young energetic team currently, I am sure they will take on board things that happen during the game and how imperative it is to keep 11 men on the pitch.

I would like to thank all the Odd Down supporters who made the short journey to brave the cold and support the lads. It looked as if we had more support than the home team on the night!

So here we go for round 3 of the top 3 teams, fingers crossed we can get something from the game

Thank you for your continued support

Best wishes

Lee
