New article for 2012

Introducing a new monthly article to jazz up the site content a bit in 2012, it's Blast from the Past' - where we've dug up an old report from the archives to relive some of Sedge's classic matches over the past few years.

Due to the first team's league and cup double-header with current leaders Beighouse Rangers we're going to start by looking back at when these two sides met for the first time following the Rangers' ejection from the National Conference.

Five-Star Sedge Blitz Brighouse

Eighteen points in the first eighteen minutes set the platform for a cracking display at home to fallen big-timers Brighouse. Sedge came racing out of the starting blocks and the first try came very quickly. Ste executed a twist near the line and James slid over to start things off. The next try was set up by Dom, who scooted three quaters of the pitch in a storming drive and from that position Luke ran onto a drop off and scored. Odsal's third was the most celebrated of the day; Flynny put a kick into the ingoal and confusion at the back saw Browny get a deserved first try of the season. Sedbergh, seemingly scoring with every set could've made their lead stronger but Reece somehow couldn't collect Flem's offload outwide, however soonafter Tom got the forth try and kicked it for a massive 24-0 lead.

However the previous unbreakable defence was broke three times before the break. Brighouse had been stuck in their own half with no options but they scored their first, at the time it seemed meaningless. But poor marking out wide let them cross again. The worst was when a simple chip over wasn't collected by Jonny and a sloppy knock on gifted the visitors a third, and a lot of confidence going into the break.

Defending downhill was now a mammoth task but Odsal weren't to be outdone today. Brighouse were stuck so much they kicked on the first and second tackle more than once just to get the ball away from their own line. Flynny's drop goal widened the margin a little but it looked game over when his crossfield kick was spilled by their fullback and the ball bounced up for Jonny to score his easiest of the season.

Another switch off later and Brighouse had a sniff, their number 5 running an immense arc around everyone to dart in under the sticks, 29-20 wasn't so safe.

Good defensive efforts all round were nearly rewarded further when Matty Brewerton scored in the corner, but it was pulled back for a forward pass, however Tom's penalty gave the hosts a 7-6 second half victory and a third straight win in all competitions.
