Reaction from Bootle manager Joe Doran after his sides 3-2 win over Colne.

“I thought we played well today”
- Joe Doran

Bootle manager Joe Doran praised the “shift” his side put in against tittle chasing Colne.

Goals from Joe Peacock, Michael Ordish and Steven Hoy aided by two penalty saves from Ryan Jones helped the Bucks to a 3-2 win.

Speaking after the game Doran said: “They were just eleven lads there that wanted to put a shift in, and wanted to work hard. The ability has always been there; it’s just getting them to put a shift in like that every week that’s my target.

"We’ve had problems keeping people fit, and problems with people wanting to play their own game rather than what’s best for the team.”

The Bucks boss also believes his side stuck to the task, and that a change in training on Thursday night ahead of the game helped his side produce one of their best performances of the season. “I thought we played well today” said Doran.

“I think going into the game our last five results had been lost four drew one going in against top of the league we had to go in and show them respect, but I think the lads stuck to the task today.”

“I worked with them on Thursday about how I wanted them to shape up and play, and to be fair they have responded quite well. It was a different type of training I often sit back and watch us play on the astro turf on a Thursday night and think wow.

“But then the games we have lost, we haven’t switched on early and we haven’t marked our men properly. We needed to switch on earlier today and we did. We kept our shape and put a shift in.”

Doran also stated that his sides recent poor run of form was not acceptable and he had expressed his anger at his side. “We’ve been on a bit of a bad run which hasn’t been acceptable, and I told the players that.

“We turned it round today. It’s just little steps in the right direction. We’ve put a good shift in today and took our chances when they come. We’ve got a good result, but, it’s just three points at the end of the day.”

Doran was also full of praise for Daniel O’Connor, who he believed, had been influential in getting his side up for the game. “I spoke to a couple a couple of senior players and the message has been put across. Daniel O’Connor, a senior player for us has been influential in terms of getting the lads going for it a long with myself, Richie, Nick and James.”

Daniel Murphy and Steven Hoy were both handed debuts by Doran and duo that were signed on deadline day did not disappoint. “Daniel Murphy and Ste Hoy are team players; there is no two ways about it” said Doran. “They’ve come in been vocal, talked and done things that some players don’t want to do.”

Looking ahead the Bucks boss is hopeful that this result will help his side kick on as they enter the final quarter of the season. “I think this week and the performance today will give us the platform to kick on.”

“Although we haven’t got a game for ten days now we will carry on working hard. We will keep working on the shape and keep working on what I want from the team, if we can put performances in like that and work as hard as that each week then I think we will be alright.”
