1st Team Assistant Coach DANNY MONK

Each month we’ll be speaking to different ‘personalities’ (…using the term loosely) from around the club in a light-hearted interview to get to know them better.
First up is our new 1st Team Assistant coach Danny who joined the Brods during the off-season.

Name: Danny Monk
Role: Assistant Coach/Backs Coach
Previous clubs: Playing - Morley, Knottingley, West Leeds. Coaching - West Leeds
When did you start coaching? 2011 (this is my 3rd full season)
Why did you start coaching? Age is catching up with me and niggling injuries that never seemed to recover
What sort of coach are you? I like to think that I open mind and listen to players input but when I have to be I will make sure I get my point across
The favourite moment in your rugby career so far? On my 1st team debut for Morley kicking the winning drop goal against Old Crocs in the Yorkshire cup
First impressions of the Old Brods. A welcoming club with a great set of lads
Aspirations for this season (with the Brods) Promotion!!!
Any advice to young Brods players: Train hard, play hard, take on board any advice and enjoy your rugby

personal stuff....
Who’s been a huge influence in your life? on my life it’s my family and friends. In terms of rugby it’s a good friend of mine Colin Stephens
What do you like most about match days? the first beer in the club after a win. I get nervous pre-match.
What do you like to do outside Rugby? usual stuff, nice meals and going out for a few beers. In the summer I like to go camping.
Any weird habits? making sure that all the cones are colour co-ordinated after every training session
What did you want to be when you were a kid? Peter Pan, may have something to do why I think I am still 21 on a night out!!!
One thing you’d put in Room 101. sea gulls…hate them and what use are they?
Best rugby tour you’ve been on (year and destination): a week in Valencia in 2004 with Morley.
Favourite drink: mango rubicon
Favourite food: calzone pizza
Favourite holiday destination: not a big one for going abroad, prefer Dorset or Devon
Last film you saw and was it any good? Inbetweeners 2 - was ok… won’t be watching it again

Ever been told you look like someone famous? If so, who? no…boring I know. Think someone at brods thought I looked like the guy from hangover when me and Matt were announced as coaches
If they made a movie about your life who would you want cast to play YOU? Jude Law??
Favourite karaoke song: Don McLean - American Pie
Favourite actress/model: Kelly brook, not sure if she is a model or an actress haha
Favourite biscuit? going to be contraversal, Jaffa Cake….is it a biscuit???
Weirdest bloke you’ve met at the Brods so far? Russ, his phone doesn’t even have a 'texter'
Worst dressed bloke at Brods? prob going to come as no surprise…sorry Laurie

Key club dates coming up…..

12/10/14
Old Brods has been chosen again to host the Lexus Festival which is a huge honour for the club. We do need volunteers to assist though – on Sunday 12th October.

8/11/14
The Yorkshire Air Ambulance will be landing on the Brods pitch at noon on Saturday 8th November. Why not come along, bring the kids and meet the pilots.
