...They stood tall to a man...U14 progress to Yorkshire Cup SF with their best performance of the season so far.

Old Brods under14s vs Dinnington Yorkshire cup quarter final.

A bruising game sees Old Brods under 14s Progress to the semi-finals of the Yorkshire Cup with a 36/5 win over Dinnington.

The home side started with real aggression, and tried to dominate and dictate preceedings, their larger forwards trying to bully the Woodhead boys from the off. However Brods stood their ground and took the home side on, fighting for possession, driving through the middle and then repeatedly stretching them out wide. Their high tempo approach also ensured they did not allow Dinnington to counter attack, as the home side found themselves under immense pressure once the ball was played out wide. Our structured approach of playing a strong phased game really serving us well.

The first Brods try was an excellent team effort, with great forward play setting it up and some excellent penetrating runs from the backs with Inman kicking the extras. A period of pressure on the centre line followed, the hosts weight advantage in the scrums proving difficult for the Brods.

Brods soon regained possession, and again with a ball out wide, a good run from Macdonald, a kick from Inman and Chin touched downfor a really smart try. Great vision from Inman, the boys' tails were up! 12-0 Brods.

Despite their significant weight advantage giving them the edge in the scrums, Dinnington were unable to retain possession due to superb counter rucking and attacking play from Leahy, Farley, Jones and Haldenby. Dinningtons unbeaten record this season was under pressure, and it showed.

Turnover ball again created provided a platform, a great direct run by Felix Lorrimer made excellent ground, allowing Inman to make the conversion. 19-0

The forwards where working hard...very hard...we were briefly down to 13 men as our subs had now all been ustilised, also losing one to a yellow just before half time, we shuffled as best we could. The loss of two players to injury in quick succession really stretched the lads resolve.

From the restart Brods conceded a penalty inside their own 22. Dinnington regained possession, and using their weight advantage with a rolling maul, marched over to reduce the deficit. Scrums now uncontested with Brods having no additional front row available

The restart, quick recycled ball and a marked step up in intensity Brods returned with relish... great vision from Inman, a supporting Chin ran on to a pass at pace to take a second. 24-5....Half Time and what a contest!!

The restart saw Brods back upto 15 within 5 minutes...Dinningtom however started with added vigour. The larger Dinnington pack utilising the ball well and playing a tight game, their back row making good yards and pressurising Brods on their 22. Brods counter rucking again working well...the pack will ache tommorrow!!

Brods putting everything on the line and leaving everything on the pitchto a man today !! No danger of buckling nor becoming complacent, intent in seeing this through, this young team played beyond their years showing their metal and a touch of class in an ill disciplined game. Brods again streched the Dinnington defence, playing the ball wide, this time to Cliff who stepped inside to cross. Inman converting. 31-5. An additional yellow saw Dinnington lose their lock for the remainder of the game.

Brods Stuck to the task, more good runs from Haldenby, Thackray and Calvert Green eventually producing a ball out wide, and a fantastically weighted pass from Cliff sent Macdonald scampering over under the posts for his second and the last. 36-5

The score line did not reflect the intensity of the contest, Dinnington were a difficult, very physical opponent and the Boys had to work hard for the win....how they sang!!

Many, many standout performances...best team performance for a very long time, which is high praise. Well Done Fellas!!
