Good for u15's over Barnsley
Old Brods u15’s entertained Barnsley u15’s for the first game after Christmas and came out winners by 34-24.
Playing down the slope in the first half Brods needed to make the advantage tell, but it was the big Barnsley forwards who had the advantage for the first 10 minutes, keeping the Brods in there own half and starving them of possession, then with Brods first decent bit of possession on the halfway scrum half Jack Moger got quick ball and fed Nick Galvin, he then put Bradley Allen through a huge gap in the Barnsley defence for him to beat several defenders on his to the try line, 5-0. A couple of minutes later, the Brods scored again, after good work from Connor Whitham and Jack Sharp to secure quick ball, Reece Ward made a break and fed Will Bates who beat his marker and outpaced the fullback to score under the posts, converted by Allen 12-0.
With Brods now full of confidence they began to make big holes in the Barnsley defence, with props Will Smith and James Round making huge ground the Brods took advantage and scored 2 more tries, Ward crashed through the defence, side stepped the full back to score, then Sharpe scored from the back of a ruck after relentless pressure from the Brods forwards to finish the half at 22-0.
As expected Barnsley came back hard at the brods to score 2 tries through there forwards to make it 22-12 with 15minutes, left, game on! But brods showed true character with a series of pick up and drives from forwards George Pickles, Oliver Booth and Micheal Dunn to get into the Barnsley 22, from there the was passed to Joe Bowman who passed to Ward to crash through and score his second try of the game, 27-12.
Back came Barnsley after sustained pressure on the Brods line they finally mangled to score by the post with 5 minutes to go, 27-19.
Not to be out done, the Brods hit back straight away, after a scrum on half way, moger dummied his opposite number and with two men trying to tackle him through out and over head pass to Allen who beat several defenders to score by the posts, Allen converting 34-19. On the last play of the game Barnsley Scored out wide to finish with 24pts but it was Brods who were not to be denied winning 34-24.
