Match Preview

After good strong performances in the last two friendlies, the Old Cats 13 team turned up in good ‘spirit’ for a match with a very well organised Bromley team.
The boys opened their match with a lack of concentration from the start. Losing the scrum which was solid in previous weeks, was a ‘trick’ that the Old cats boys did not want to ‘treat’ Bromley and with very quick hands got the ball wide to one of Bromleys ghostly quick forwards with a score within the first few minutes.

The Old Cat boys could never really get to grips with the game and was obviously under a spell straight out of a ‘Lord Voldemort spell book’ from the Bromley well-rehearsed, drilled team of winning the ball in the middle and getting the ball out quickly to their numerous quick lads outside.
However, it was not all ghost and ghouls for Old Cats. There were some great glimpses of individual performances.
Leo, continued his excellent positioning as full back with numerous try saving tackles. Beau, winning the ball from set pieces. Ross, with his line out work and hitting the target. Our subs Callum & Will, coming on and making a real impact on the game, which for moments turned the balance towards Olds cats. Will’s drive and determination scoring a try. A man of the match performance from Lawrence who from the start showed a real desire to take the game to Bromley, not only making his tackles but getting in the right position to compete for the ball again. Unfortunately Lawrence has to come off with a knock to the head, but he put in a sterling performance and he is all better now.

It was a tough day for the boys, but they will learn the lessons from this match and then quickly move on to what we know they can deliver. The team spirit is developing, through adversity the boys never turned on each other and there is a desire and belief within the team to make sure there is not a sequel.
