Cents kept up the pressure on league leaders Chard with a big win over a Whitehall side that never gave up trying. It was important that Cents put on a good show in order to let Chard know that they are ready for next weeks showdown at Chard for their rearranged league fixture.
However today's game came at a cost with influential flyhalf Dave Knight
sustaining a shoulder injury after half an hour of the match.Dave came off as a precaution and it is hoped the injury will not prevent him from playing in the important league match next week.
Cents had the match won by half time as they led 29-5 at the break and they also had secured the try bonus point after scoring 5 tries.Cents were well in control of the match and their slick handling and inter passing had Whitehall in trouble all afternoon.Cents were well in control of the tight and their lineout functioned well. The only area the forwards had any problems with was at the ruck and maul where they did not clear out the Whitehall forwards effectively,an area they will need to tighten up on next week.
Cents scored their tries through Sam Preece
(2)and Rob Jones
.One try was converted by Liam Hemming
and another by Craig Anderson
.Whitehall to their credit took the match to Cents at all times and their efforts were rewarded with a try on the stroke of half time.
After the break Cents continued to put enormous pressure on Whitehall and had their defence all over the place with some delightful inter passing and good lines of running.Cents scored a further 3 tries after the break through Lewis May
(2),completing his hatrick and another from Liam Hemming
who also completed his hatrick.Again Craig Anderson
converted one of the tries and Liam Hemming
As at the end of the first half,Whitehall scored their second and last try at the end of the match. This was converted and was no more than they deserved for a battling performance which showed the character for them to stay up.
Cents now look forward to the top of the table clash next week and they are in good shape to have a good go at the league leaders. However there will be one or two things they will have to work on during the week to tighten up their game plan.
