The Crocs u13s defeated Huddersield only to be denied a final spot through points difference
The Crocs u12/13s took part in their 1st ever sevens tournament at Skipton on Sunday.
Playing in the under 13s age group the squad performed admirably. The 1st game against Bradford and Bingley was scoreless for much of the 1st half but the young Crocs were defeated by 2 late tries from Bees despite excellent cover defending from Max Balfour and George Ackroyd.
The Crocs then played the much fancied tournament favourites Huddersfield.
The game started with both defences on top with captain Riley Dean and George Ackroyd organising the defence line but eventually Huddersfield broke the deadlock from an offload pass to break clear and score. Not to be deterred the Crocs stuck to their task and following a strong run from Amir Bourouh Joe Stott dived over to bring the score level.
The Crocs game then lifted with new found confidence and belief further inspired by the marauding runs of Nathan Cornish who proved too much to handle for the Huddersfield outfit registering two quick tries in succession.
Max Balfour then fielded the return kick off and attracted two Huddersfield defenders before using his strength to offload to Ben Brearley who spread the play wide to George Ackroyd who then linked up with the ever present Riley Dean to score and seal victory for the Crocs Juniors. Riley Dean also added all the drop goal conversions.
Unfortunately the team missed out on the plate final due to points difference, however the team performed well and gained valuable experience.
