THE WEARING OF BLADES (Studs).

Several queries have been raised recently regarding the wearing of blades. This matter has therefore been considered by the Youth Rugby Organising Committee. Blades, as a form of stud, have not currently been banned by the IRB or RFU. When playing rugby it is the responsibility of the player (parent/carer/guardian) to ensure all equipment, including boots is fit for purpose in line with IRB Regulations. We will expect all coaches to check boots before any rugby training session and/or match to ensure boots, studs and other equipment is safe. Referees should also do this before any match.

All studs should comply with IRB Reg (12) and as such studs made of nylon will not be permitted.
All studs are to be of made of aluminium (metal).
No boot will be allowed with a single toe stud.
Moulded rubber studs are permitted so long as there are no sharp edges.

In our view and to save any confusion blades should not be worn. If you are looking to purchase a new pair of boots for soft ground we would advise that you select a "traditional" round metal stud.

If you have any further queries please contact you age group Head Coach.
