Eltham College and Old Elthamians RFC have this week submitted a planning application for the redevelopment of their home ground at College Meadow.

The application includes the construction of a second tier on the existing clubhouse, an all-weather playing surface - which will be rotated 180 degrees from the current layout - complete with modern floodlights, and a covered grandstand on one side providing seating for 300 supporters.

In addition, a new pavilion will be built on the grounds of Eltham College to provide a home for cricket and hockey.

The Headmaster of Eltham College, Guy Sanderson commented: “The application was the fruition of the ever-growing links between the school and OEs rugby and the new plans will provide the club with the facilities they need to match their growing reputation and ambition on and off the pitch.”

Over the past 12 months, the club, in partnership with the school, have consulted widely with neighbouring residents, local businesses, statutory authorities and continue to work closely with the Council.

If the Council approve the application, which could take anything up to 10 weeks to process, the club are hopeful that work could begin in early May this year.

OEs Director of Rugby Gavin Lach said: “The public consultation was held by Eltham College before Christmas which went very well - we haven’t had any problems. It’s now down to Bromley Council.

“I certainly don’t want to tempt fate at this stage, but if we do get permission we want to get underway as soon as possible. I’m reluctant to put a timescale on this because there are so many variables - like the weather! But I’m delighted that after two years of hard work, we can finally see light at the end of the tunnel.”

Plans for the new development will be put up on the walls of the clubhouses at College Meadow and the Marathon Ground in the next two weeks, and further information will be provided here at www.oldelthamiansrfc.com .
