2012 is here so lets bring on the Rugby!

The fun and frolics of Christmas are over so lets get on with it

This Saturday the rugby starts again after a long break for the Christmas period when Oldershaw welcome Ellesmere Port to Belvidere.

Port are coached by ex New Brighton, Chester and Cheshire coach Steve Dorrington who has returned to his roots after a succesful career at New Brighton. If nothing else they will be organised.

There could be selection issues for captain Jono as Eddie The Salmon, Mikey Warren and Mark Sopp should all be available for selection after months / weeks off depending on the person!

The youth policy has been paying dividends recently but perhaps a chance to take some of the younger players out of the spotlight and continue their rugby education in the serenity of the 2nd XV may be worth considering.

The 2nd XV travel to Waterloo for the return fixture after a thrilling 22-22 draw at Belvidere. Hopefully Tom Stead can select from strenght and Oldershaw as a whole can go on a run of successes on the pitch which would brighten spirits all around!

Selection issues????? Tell us of a single match this season where that has not been a problem for the captain.
As for youth policy considerations, without their participation we would be in a very, very precarious position.
If player's are injured or come back from other teams, you can not just drop the people who have stood up to the plate to take their place. We have played some of our best rugby in years with a very weakened side, but you have to give credit where credit is due. Just read the match reports, win or lose, the lads on the pitch have played their heart's out, and deserve to wear a first team shirt.
It's great to have people back on the 'on call' list, but let the captain get on with his difficult task of rescueing the season without posting helpful comments in your news feed.

The problems this season have come about as players have had "reasons" for not being able to play.
Hopefully with the returning players mentioned above it will give Jono choice/ options rather than having to play someone because they are the only one left.

It is commendable that so many young players have made their debuts this season which can only augur well for the coming seasons. Ideally we would want to integrate them gradually with experience around them to ease their way in to 1st XV rugby however this has not been possible so far this season.

If you you re-read the the piece above again, you will see that it was factual and not opinionated in way shape or form. The captain is a big boy and will make his own decisions based on his own feedback from those involved in the selection process.

O my lord JOR. Will with a positive post and you jump all over it. Yes, selection has been a problem all season but Jonno now maybe has a different selection headache that he has people available and can select rather then beg people to play. If I were in his position I would rather have selection this week than before christmas any day of the week.

Wether selected for 2's or 1's I will be giving my all this weekend aiming at getting some match fitness and getting back in that first team where I believe I belong.

Eddie, I have no doubt that you will do your utmost and get back to where you belong,
Will, how on earth is 'Youth policy etc....may be worth considering' NOT an opinion????

As for your final sentence in your last comment,...Is that not the exact point that I was making????? ie. let him get on with it???????
I have no doubt that you will not post an apology.
