Oldrshaw welcomed Mossely Hill to the Fortress

Oldershaw welcomed Mossley Hill to fortress Belvedere hoping to exact revenge for a severe mauling in September.

Oldershaw welcomed back Earus McCulloch, Man Mountain Clarke, the General and Che Wickham (from a serious injury, good to see you back!) back to the fold and fielded a strong 2nd team despite the 1st team playing and several players away in Rome.

Captain Fantastic Barnes won the toss and chose to play away from the clubhouse, keeping with 2nd team tradition. With the game only a few minutes old, Lash did what he does best and ran over a few Mossley Hill forwards that chose to stand between him and the try line and fed Shaggy Henry on the wing to score a great try.
Mossley Hill refused to let this early score turn into a rout and put up stout defence, as has been seen in previous weeks, Oldershaw's poor organisation in defence caused more problems as holes appeared almost at will for Mossley Hill to run through and only last ditch defence at times kept them scoreless. Big Avo has been in scintillating form in the last few weeks and was not going to be denied his customary score even when playing first five eighth. He was fed 10 yards out under the sticks and bounced several defenders off to score under the posts with the conversion added to make the score 12-0. Oldershaw, in general, dominated play, but failed to add to this tally in the 1st half due to a combination of good defence and wrong options at crucial times, particularly kicking good ball away.

Half time: Oldershaw 12 Mossley Hill 0

The half time talk galvanised the Oldershaw pack and they finally started to dominate their opponents. A series of powerful scrums and mauls seemed to suck the fight out of their tiring opponents and it was only a matter of time before Earus scored a well deserved try. Forward domination continued, with the backs adding a solid defense whenever Mossley Hill tried to run. From a driving maul Man Mountain Clarke was fed 6 yards out and carried all the other 29 players over the line with him for a well earned try. Mossley Hill were still trying their best to take the game to Oldershaw and must be congratulated on their never say die spirit, but they were clearly 2nd best to an Oldershaw side inspired by recent hard fought victories and eager to maintain their genuine title challenge. In the last quarter Earus scored a second well earned try, conceived from some fine driving play by the forwards and finished with an audacious dummy and flop over the line, Captain Fantastic added the extra for a 29-0 lead. Mossley Hill were eventually rewarded for their continued spirited resistance and scored a converted try late on to spoil the hopes of a nil scoreline.

Connor Lloyd-Jones is the man of the match adjudicator, but confesses to having missed some of the game due to his mate coming down and wanting to play footie. But in conjunction with his Mum has the following mentions to make. Che for not looking like he had broken his jaw and tackling like a demon, Big Jay, who surely must be in contention for a 1st team chance soon, Front 5 again for the continued set piece domination, well done!! And Monkey for his efforts round the paddock. Not many backs getting a mention lately, time to step up to the oche boys!!
Man of the Match is given to Earus McCulloch for his all round performance, game control and 2 tries, it was nice to see him in a 2nd team shirt, good luck in the 1st team!!

We now have a genuine chance of honours this season and must continue the brilliant efforts. We have a tricky away game this weekend at Mold and in the great tradition of Oldershaw teams, are sure to struggle to get a team together. I urge all of you to stick together as a team and continue the assault on the league, the author of this report is injured and unfortunately won't be there, but will be ringing round for players and hopes to get a positive response. The thing is there to be won, but also lost!!!!!!!!!!!

That is all.
