So after several phonecalls we agreed to carry on with the planned fixture despite the boggy conditions, and both sides enjoyed a great game of cricket between two quite evenly matched teams.
I'm sure the parents enjoyed scrubbing those filthy whites after this one, Vanish anyone?
As the away team we batted first and though Sam Hanna was bowled out, he is showing great signs of improvement considering this is his first season. Holly King batted well and set the tone with some aggressive hitting, the two Joe's, Mcintyre and Wild did well, as did Benedict Elliott and Ben Howbrook, ( confusing the scorer with these partners almost sharing names ). A special mention goes out to the two debutants of the day with Daniel Bate and reserve Jacob Donnelly ( thats my boy ) both defending well, and not losing a single wicket between them despite some good bowling.
In the second half we started well with Holly, Jacob, Daniel, and Benedict all taking wickets in their first overs. All the bowlers bowled well and the fielding was superb considering the conditions, we only conceded one boundary in the innings.
The highlight for me was Joe Wild keeping wicket for the first time, and looking a complete natural, actually stumping one of the Broadbottom batsmen!
Sadly the season is coming to an end but we are hoping to squeeze three more games in, and we can still put some work in on Fridays.
Despite the conditions this was a creditable performance and it is a pleasure to work with these kids even though I need earplugs at times!
MOM awards went to Joe Wild and Jacob Donnelly ( I did not vote ).
Thanks also to Messrs Croft and Heydon for making us welcome and somehow providing a wicket which played well.
