A selection of Old Gravesendians Youth Coaches and Players at Blue and Blue Day 2018
***2018 Registration Day - Sunday 2nd September @ 10am***
Welcome to the home page of Old Gravesendians RFC Youth Section.
Old Gravesendians provides Youth Rugby for ages 3 to 9 for both boys and girls.
All of our coaches are fully qualified and DBS checked and our sessions are tailored towards enjoyment for the children, following the 5 core principles of Old Gravesendians Youth Rugby:
Training sessions take place at Old Gravesendians Rugby Club every Sunday from 2nd September, throughout the season (excluding school holidays) with the sessions starting at 10am. New players and parents are welcome to come down and try out Rugby! There is no fee for a training session and the annual subscription is only £20 per year per child, which then includes your child under the RFU Insurance Scheme.
So why not give it a go and become the newest member of the Old Gravesendians Youth Section!!
Youth Rugby at Old Gravesendians has had a long and successful history. It was initially founded in the early 1990's and at one stage ran teams from U6's to U18's, competing annually in the Kent Festivals. Players from these years are still playing at Old Gravesendians, with a number of former Youth team players now firmly established in the 1st XV.
At the turn of the century, numbers began to decline and unfortunately the Youth section closed down in 2015, however it was to be reborn again in 2017.
Two 1st XV players and fairly new fathers, Dave Boyer and Matt Coomber approached the committee about re-forming the youth section and gained the full support of the Management. From humble beginnings, where they held their first session in early 2017 when 3 children arrived, the section grew at a rate that no one at Old Gravesendians could believe.
Over the 2017 Summer, Old Gravesendians decided it was time to officially launch the new Youth Section for the 2017-18 season. Word of mouth spread and number increased every week. With more players came more coaches and the introduction of the Sunday Morning Tea Hut, parents could relax and enjoy themselves whilst their children took part in training.
From that day in 2017, where 2 coaches ran a session with 3 children, the Youth Section ended the 2017-18 season with 50 registered Children and 10 registered coaches, as well as qualified First Aiders, a Data Protection Officer and a Safeguarding Officer . Our aim at Old Gravesendians is to continue this recruitment, increase numbers across the various age ranges and continue to provide enjoyment for all the Children.
