2014 – 2015 - Old Grovians promotion to Yorkshire 2
This year’s performance on the pitch has been exceptional and is without doubt the most successful in the short history of Old Grovians RUFC
The club was re-formed in 2006 by Nick Fawcett, James ‘Foggy’ Phillips and John Hinchliffe. The first season comprised of just 5 or 6 friendly matches before entering Yorkshire League 5B and playing competitive rugby for the first time in September 2007, Old Grovians progressed well and gained promotion to Yorkshire 4 in 2011, to Yorkshire 3 in 2013 and now to Yorkshire 2 breaking records as they go along.
It’s not unusual at some clubs but there is definitely a special spirit around the OG club that doesn’t just come from doing well on the field, but from the relationships and commitment of all those involved. The supporters, sponsors and school have been an active encouragement to the ethos and play, on and off the pitch and it’s these values we hope to take with us into our Yorkshire 2 experience next season
This step up to Y2 and consistent progression of playing skills needs to be rewarded and underpinned by the off pitch activities , and it’s probably true to say that so far OG success as a team has outpaced the expectations and facilities it uses. Woodhouse Grove School has been a pillar in this respect and without their help in all areas the team could not have achieved so much.
As OGRUFC embark on a 7 year plan to improve the off field and pitch facilities, progress has been made in a number of areas with the club working hard to gain the backing to accelerate these plans. Support in this process is vital and we would like to welcome all to a kick off evening of celebration of the achievements to date and the challenges to come
