Under 13’s
Crosfields Cobras 32 Oldham St Anne’s 10
In very wet conditions to good sides met and initially defences were on top with no score for either side, but on fifteen minutes St Anne’s struck first with an initial break by James Barran who moved the ball on to Liam Riley who continued the break before producing a sublime over the top pass to the supporting Oliver Depetrillo. James Barran landed the conversion to give Saints a six nil lead and they were also looking to have the edge.
From the restart though the game turned on its head, Saints returned the kickoff and the ball was stolen one on one for an easy run to the line by the Crosfields player, but they missed an easy conversion attempt.
But was the only incentive the home side needed as they produced two more converted tries before the break for a well deserved 16-6 lead.
The pattern continued in the second half when the home side spotted a weakness on the Saints right edge defence and exploited it to provide anther sixteen unanswered points.
Saints battled on hard throughout but failed to keep control of the ball in difficult conditions and turned it over early in the tackle count on too many occasions. There endeavour paid off though when they produced some strong work on the right which resulted in an off load to captain Josh Fish who forced his was over.
Jack Kelly, Cameron Molloy and Haider Khan showed up well for Saints but it was Liam Riley who took the plaudits for Man of the Match.
