b]About the Under 9’s[/b]
The under 9’s (school year 4) play contact rugby, and we welcome both boys and girls to the team. Our ethos is to give every child an equal opportunity to learn and play rugby. We play to win but not at the expense of teamwork, participation and most importantly enjoyment. We want all the children to understand the core principles of rugby, to have fun and hopefully play in a team in which they make friends for life.
All our coaches are RFU qualified and some still actively play for the senior club.
Training
We put great emphasis on training and it is more important than matches. Please ensure that your child is adequately clothed as they can always take layers off if they get too warm. No hoodies as these can be dangerous. Make sure they have a drink that they bring out with them and where possible some fruit to eat as well.
Matches
We play a number of fixtures throughout the season. Generally we split the teams into two equal squads and we will often arrange different fixtures for the teams. This can be confusing at times so please respond to your Teamer invites so we know that you are aware of where your child should be. At this age, unlike some clubs, we believe in giving every child a game and winning is not the only thing we play for. We want to see your child improving their skills and as a team progressing each week. As coaches we are all very competitive people however we see the benefit of building a team with every child playing their part.
Communication
If you have any concerns about any the activities your child does or just want to discuss anything please come and talk to any of us.
